Dr. Sombke completed his masters and doctoral degrees in psychology at Utah State University, after successfully graduating from an internship program at the Southern Louisiana Internship Consortium. Prior to graduating, he served as an Instructor in the Psychology Department at Utah State University for 5 years. He has been involved in providing clinical psychological services in outpatient clinics, mental health centers and correctional facilities for over 10 years, completing his post doctoral supervision at the Idaho Department of Corrections. After this supervision he was employed as the Chief Psychologist at the Idaho Maximum Security Institute. Presently, he is a practicing partner at the Meridian Psychological Center, focusing on forensic, consulting, and clinical services for adults and older adolescents. He has provided competency to stand trial examinations for the Third and Fourth Judicial Districts in the State of Idaho, as well as Presentencing Examinations for the Fourth District Court. He has also provided opinions regarding recidivism risk of sexual offenders, and perpetrators of other violent crimes. Dr. Sombke is approved as a Designated Examiner by the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, involved in assisting the courts with the involuntary commitment process. In the civil arena, he conducts independent examinations for disability determination for the Social Security Administration in Idaho. Dr. Sombke specializes in independent assessments, examinations, and court related evaluations, diagnosing various psychiatric disorders, identifying risk factors for psychopathy, identifying risk of malingering and genuineness of effort, evaluating risk of violence toward self or others, and assessment of ADD/ADHD. Consultation services include training on mental illness issues and suicide prevention to Correctional/Probation and Parole officers. Treatment services provided by Dr. Sombke emphasize cognitive behavior therapy for treatment of psychiatric disorders, with additional training that includes working with sex offenders, other criminal offenders, and individuals with HIV/AIDS.
