Psychologists are doctors that typically have completed an average of 7 years of graduate education and supervised practice prior to licensure for independent practice by the State. As such, psychologists as a profession have extensive education and supervised training in the provision of healthcare services in mental health and medical settings, licensed for independent clinical practice by the State.
Psychologists who provide forensic services utilize their training as behavioral scientists to provide opinions to the court. Additionally, psychologists are bound by the Ethics Code of the American Psychological Association which places the well being of the patient as its top priority.
